It's a shame that there are so many so-called
rescues out there and breeders who could care
less about the animals. So many are in it for the money and the
attention they can bring to
themselves.
True

True stories about unethical
greedy breeders, from the people it happened
to

From this
sweet little thing
to this big

face
This
page is dedicated to all you greedy S-o-B's out there who
forgot about the animals, and replaced them with a $ dollar
sign. Shame on you for forgetting them, they are alive, they breath
and feel pain and fear. They should have learned to fear you, the
breeder.
GREEDY BREEDING
A good breeder should ask questions of the potential
buyers and find out if they are legal in their state or county and
if they have any knowledge of what they are getting into before they
sell the cat. But some only care about the sale and the dollar
signs, not about the animals. I have seen what once were responsible
breeders caring about their cats, take a complete turn around and
now are in it for what these cats can do for them. Their standards
are no longer about what I can do for the animals, it is about
money, greed, and putting them self in the spotlight, and what is
this animal going to do for ME.
People like this run around patting themselves on
the back trying to convince others of what great people they are,
but behind closed doors they plot and try to do whatever they can to
bring more money into their hands. No longer caring or remembering
why they chose to be a breeder and to sell the precious souls to
bring joy into the lives of others. No, it is no longer about that,
it doesn't matter how many die at their own hands, other than you
just lost a possible sale. It doesn't matter how many babies are
sick and die from disease before they immune system develops enough
to fight it off. No, none of these things matter anymore, their
death is a loss of money, more income. Oh yeah and let's not forget
the complaining about the vet cost or drug cost to try and reverse a
preventable situation, by keeping things clean and sterile, but that
would take an effort. When your mass producing who has time to keep
things clean and sterile, use drugs, it's faster, and if they die,
oh well there will be another litter behind it soon.
Does
any of this sound familiar to anyone, if you are a breeder and are
reading this and getting angry, then you must be guilty of some of
the things mentioned above. I for one get angry when I see and hear
of places like this, unethical people who have lost their
values and now measure all they do by the almighty dollar. Once a
long time ago they may have had a sterling reputation, but remember
sterling does tarnish when it is not kept clean
!!!!
There are good
reputable breeders out there and if you are one of them then your
reputation should go unchallenged. But if you are one of the
unethical breeders, remember all things will come back on you in
time. I believe the universe will take care of your wrong doings and
you will pay for it in time.
BUYER BEWARE!!
To any potential
buyers, beware, ask questions, ask others, research do your home
work thoroughly before you buy. If you don't you may end up with
what you thought was a healthy kitten, only to find it is suffering
from a disease that may end up costing you big time vet bills or
worse end up with your new baby dying, because the breeder only
cared about making the sale.
First you should seek
out other people who have whatever kind of cat you
are looking for (the internet is a good place to start), and
get recommendations as to a good breeder through word of mouth, from
other people who have had direct experiences with a breeder. Look at
photos of their animal, ask about it's temperament and personality,
and if it was well socialized with people when they received it. Ask
if they felt they got a healthy animal from the breeder, did they
receive adequate or proper diet, nutrition, and care advice from the
breeder (or did they have to seek help elsewhere for this basic
needs?), did they feel the breeder was honest and forthcoming
about the kitten and what to expect, has the breeder been
willing to help with any problems or difficulties the owner has
encountered over the lifetime of the cat? Look for a
breeder that does not breed their cats
heavily, with litters back to back to back, but allows the
mother time to recuperate her health between litters,
etc.
Below is an
example of mass production and a great way to spread disease from
one kitten to the other there are roughly 12 to 14 kittens of all
ages jammed together here. Not a very good idea for
controlling any possible illness one might have. This is a very
good way to infect all the others who may have been healthy. Sure
their cute, but are they going to be and remain healthy, or soon
come down with some preventable illness right after you get them
home. Beware of a breeder that will lump all the kittens from
different litters together like this. You may be in for a lot of
problems from disease that shows up after you bring the baby home. A
good breeder will keep kittens separated, especially if there have
been any problems with illness in the past. Separate clean cages for
each litter is a much better way to prevent any infection being
transmitted to other kittens. First sign of problems a breeder
should immediately separate the sick baby from any others to try and
prevent any illness from spreading to the other
babies.

Unethical
Rescue-Sanctuaries
Are You tired of
the self-promoting, no one should have these animals except us the
big Sanctuaries and Rescue. The people who would take away your
rights to pursue happiness? They are the only place in this
country that should be allowed to have these cats. Ask them they
tell you. Give me a break would you. Example places like Big
Cats Rescue in FL.read
more
The little guy
sits quiet and funds their operation pretty much all out off their
own paycheck, why because they truly care about the animal. They are
not the glory hounds who are out there getting the mega bucks to
fund their operation. Big time sanctuaries with all the money
backing them are now trying to shut down the honest caring small
rescues. The small sanctuaries do not get the big bucks, do not get
the media coverage, do not get the volunteers to help, do not get
the big companies and money people behind them. The little guys
don't go around yelling to the high heavens what great people they
are, trying to draw attention to themselves all the time.
No, the little guy gets to sweat his backside off to give to
these creatures what they deserve, a clean, happy and healthy
environment, with fresh food and water every day, and attention and
love, given freely by the small rescues because they do care, and
are not in it for fame and fortune.
They are in it
because they love these creatures and care what happens to them, and
are not making money off them. They could care less if they are on
some BOD or working for some big corporations making a half million
a year or more. Sure that kind of money might be nice, but are you,
the little guys willing to sell your souls and the souls of your
animals that you care for to gain money and lose your perspective as
to why you are doing what you chose to do.
The small rescues
and their owners get this privilege, the affection of the animals
they care for, to watch them happy an playing. The honor of cleaning
up the poop by themself, not some hired hand, the privilege of being
their every day at feeding time as the cats come to greet you,
wooing and purring, and the highest honor of all is their marking
you as their own. Things that are missed by the overcrowded big time
rescues, the one on one contact with the animals you care for every
day. The warm feeling you get when they come to greet you, these
things can not be replaced by money.
Phoney
rescues
Now lets look at
the phoney rescues out there, the ones that have made big
money selling kittens for years. One litter after another and
another, not giving the mom time to recover inbetween litters. After
all the faster she can produce for you the more money your going to
make off her and all the other females that you keep producing
litter after litter with. The female is now growing old and unable
to keep up with the demands that have been put on her. So now what,
well what the hell open your own non-profit now and beg people for
money so you can care for the cats that have made a living
for you all these years. Why not, you ran them into the ground now
ask the public to foot the bill to care for them.
Are you people
for real, these poor creatures have spent there lives supporting YOU
the BREEDER and now you have the gall to ask for donations and you
call yourself a non-profit.
This is so wrong,
and those of you out there doing this should go crawl in a hole and
hide. You took on the responsibility of these animals as your
breeding stock and with that comes caring for them when they are
retired from breeding. After all how long can they live after every
ounce of their being has been used to reproduce to line your
pockets. This is totally unethical and irresponsible. Those of you
that are guilty of this are greedy, heartless and uncaring. You and you alone are responsible for the care
of the animals that gave everything for you, not the public, how
dare you beg for donations to care for what you created. How dare
you go out into cyberspace and take money from the real hero, the
little guys out there who are real rescues, taking in the animals
that you the breeders have flooded the markets with, their not
phonies, retiring some of their own breeding stock. They rescue for
real and take in the up rooted and unwanted. They are not you the
big time breeder exploiting all your cats for the almighty dollar
and then asking others to foot the bill to care for what you
created.
I for one know of
places like this and they have the gall to walk around like the big
shots telling the rest of you out there how to care for your animals
and what great people they are for doing this. They drag their
knuckles on the ground like an orangutan their arms have stretched
that far from patting themselves on their own back for being
such wonderful human beings, their egos are so self inflated they
think they are gods and better than every one else out there. Lie,
cheat, con, backstab, this is all part of their nature to get where
they want, stomp on people use them and toss them once they are
done, and don't care who they hurt in the process as long as they
get what they want.
There are many
good legitimate small rescues out there,
with people who really care about the animals. These people are the
real heroes, they care for the animals and work their back sides off
and their reward comes everyday when they are greeted by the animals
they love and care for. If you are wanting to help a real rescue do
some research first find one who does NOT
BREED and sell animals find a place where they rescue for
real. Search the internet and find a place that is near you to help
or one you fell you would like to help, then check them out and make
sure they are worthy of the help, that they are real and caring and
not some phoney
rescue with a scam. Then go help them and feel good about
what you have done.
Where does True
Conservation begin?
True
conservation begins in the wild not at some breeding facility. Man
must start by preserving what is here on this earth for those who
call it their home.
Everyone else is
deluding themselves that breeding in captivity is actually going to
make a difference to the long term survival of the species.
You can't call captive breeding a conservation effort when you are
selling exotic cats as pets that end up neutered or in sanctuaries,
and when you are not carefully managing and selecting bloodlines in
your breeding program. I am sure that most breeders of exotic
cats in the US cannot tell you much about their breeding cats
bloodlines, other than back one generation, if that even. If you
cannot tell how far removed from the wild your breeding stock is,
what subspecies it is, what other cats it is directly related to,
then what good is it to truly conserving the species? We have
to get real.
To top off the
lack of background genetic knowledge of our captive breeding
population, there is no where for these cats ever to go back into
the wild, because the habitat is being destroyed faster than the
wildlife. Even the zoos are full of it when they say they are
"preserving bloodlines" for future release into the wild. It is not
going to happen because the habitat is disappearing so fast and the
human population is increasing even faster.
Before one selects breeding cats, you
need to thoroughly research their bloodlines back for at least
6 generations to ensure that you will be improving the breed, rather
than diluting it. And that is exactly what most wildcat breeders are
doing--they are diluting the qualities of the species they
indiscriminately breed. Can you tell why so many servals have this
nervous condition
hyperthesia syndrome.. Indiscriminate breeding. Bad
bloodlines. Inbreeding. Because no one researches their breeding
cat's bloodlines. And they breed cats with faults or
undesirable traits. Breeding
everything you have, as hard as you can, is NOT preserving a species
or conservation by a long shot.
You cannot focus on
one aspect of preserving something. We can try to save just the
cats, but if we do not save their prey species also, what good is
it? What good is it if neither have a place to live? How
do you save the habitat? First you have to go to the humans that
live in the habitat and get them to cooperate with your conservation
goals. How do you get them to cooperate? You provide the
benefits they feel they would get if they logged their land or
otherwise destroyed the habitat, in exchange for them protect
the land instead. So many things go hand in hand,
intertwined to each other--the circle of life, so to speak. Maybe
providing a school teacher to a jungle village doesn't seem very
closely related to "conservation", but it in fact has everything to
do with conservation. These are things that many people cannot
even begin to grasp the concept.
So in the long
run True Conservation, must begin where it exists, in the wild,
while there is still a chance of preserving what is left on this
earth. If we do not make efforts to preserving the animals and
their natural habitats we will have nothing left but a barren empty
planet void of all wild life except for what is kept and inbred at
zoos. Something to leave for your children and theirs, a
planet void of nature, and all that should be living there, now on
it's way to being a memory, unless we act now and STOP
IT!!!
