       Draco then 2002                                                      Draco   Now

Draco came to us during the summer of 2002, his overall condition was not the best. He was very skinny, his stomach was sunken in, his ribs were showing and you could count the vertebra of his backbone, he was desperately in need of some TLC and regular feeding.  He was delivered from a zoo out East and came to us after a long ride locked in a carrier for days. Needless to say he was not happy and extremely upset when we tried to approach his carrier. Loudly voicing his disapproval of our being there to close to him.

We brought him home and unloaded him into his new home in the dark, he exited the carrier and looked all around, he was grateful to be able to move and stretch again. Within 24 hours we were in the cage with him building new ramps and platforms for him, he would just lay and watch us work. Happy to be out and have room to move again.

His appetite for food was great. We were told he would not eat and he was mourning the loss of his mate, I found that hard to believe, I was now feeding him 3 small meals a day to get him back to a decent weight, and slowly I increased the amount of  food and began to lessen the feedings. By winter he had really worked hard on putting on a layer of fat, and he did a darn good job of it.

Hard to believe the photo below is the same cat, but it is. Within a few short months he went from a walking skeleton to the photo below taken in 2002. Draco greets me each day with head butts, and takes food from my hands. He is a well mannered gentle big boy.

                                   Winter fat                                      Summer Sleek
Draco had a big stone and block house, but sadly he had no one to share it with. In February of 2003 I went on a trip to bring back a Siberian Lynx named Tess. This would be a surprise for the big boy, someone to share his house with. Draco and Tess now live together, Draco has someone now to share his house and his life with. Tess had been shuffled around from place to place in her life, but she is here to stay . Draco now enjoys life with Tess and has access to both cages and both houses.  Life for him is good now, safe secure and well fed, and a friend to share his home with he couldn't ask for more.

When winter rolls around Draco has a tendency to become down right fat, which worries me at times. But once the warm summer days come again he is back down to his nice trim self once again. I estimate his winter weight to be 90 pounds, I know my Canadian Lynx weighed 55 pounds when I had him in the vets office. So Draco is much bigger and fatter in the winter so 90 pounds I don't think is to far off .

This is how they thank you, build them a nice new roof over their platform and now it is much nicer on the roof than the platform, but wait how do I get down, okay there's the upper platform maybe I can take the leap of faith. Once this is over I know I have to go on a diet, one two three, wee, wow I can fly.
