Nabacha before she was
transported pictured on the left before she left her
secure home. Below on the right she desperately clings to all she
has left for her security, a jacket is the only familiar thing
she has now to make her feel comforted. Burying her face in it
during the entire trip she was so terrified she broke the weld on
the carrier and did damage to her face pushing on the transport cage
to free herself. After the cage was uncovered she clung even harder
to the familiar jacket. It is sad when these animals are uprooted
from everything they know, they do not understand what is happening
or why, they fear everything around
them.
But Nabacha has done well
since she arrived, her face now healed, along with her heart. She is
the sweetest cougar, comes running and calling and purring up a
storm when she see's you. Wants her ears scratched her chin and
neck, and pet me is a must for her.

Nabacha came to us in mid September
2004 she was about 3 years old and has spent her life in one
place. Now she needed a new home along with Precious both cougars have
grown up side by side and new only one home, now they along with 6
others had to be moved. I agreed to take Nabacha and Precious and
found homes for 5 others. Today all have new homes, and both
Nabacha and Precious have adjusted well in their new home, you might
even say they are a bit spoiled
now.

First one to come running for attention is Nabacha,
above she is reaching up and waiting for a kiss and pet me. She is
willing to lick your hand raw and gently place her mouth around it,
then keep on licking and purring as loud as she can. Spoiled rotten
now, and we're proud of it.
When a animal knows only one home and is
uprooted it is a very traumatic experience for them, Nabacha was
terrified in the transport carrier and during her trip clung in
desperation to a jacket that was hung in the carrier. This was
security for her the only thing she had left from her home. Nabacha
and Precious had only one
thing from their former home, it was their den boxes. Once the den
boxes were unloaded and attached securely to the cage, the carriers
were unloaded. One at a time they were set free into their new home.
Only half the cage was finished so they would have to learn to exist
in the same territory until the other side could be
finished.
Nabacha was the second to be unloaded, once the
carrier door opened she went out into the new cage. In a very short
time she found something familiar, her den box. She made her way
into it, after all it was where she spent her time before, a little
bit of home might help the transition to a new place. It was sad to
see the damage she had done to herself out of fear. But she has come
a long way since she arrived here in Aug. of
2004
Within a few
days Nabacha
started to calm and accept her new home, her face was starting to
heal and so was the pain in her heart from being taken from her
home. She has adjusted very well, today she comes running the minute
she see's you wanting to be petted and scratched, she was letting us
pet her and scratch her under the chin within 2 days of being
unloaded into her new home, she knew we were not going to harm her.
Below Nabacha enjoys being petted and she made short work of the new
big ball flying after it as fast as she could. Needless to say the
ball did not last long but she had fun while it
did.

Today she can't get enough
attention, always comes running when she see's you. She has bonded
well with my husband and every time she hers his voice she calls
him. The girls cage is his first stop when he comes home from work,
he has to go talk to them play with them and get them purring. This
all from the man who was not happy when I told him I was taking in
the cougars. We do not regret giving Nabacha and Precious a
new home to live out their life in peace and security, we do regret
not being able to help the others, we can not afford the new cages
or a large area for them to run and play a small natural
habitat.
Since the arrival of
Precious and Nabacha the last cougar left all alone on the mountain
top has made her way to us and become even more spoiled than the
other 2, if that is possible. Baby
is our third here. The people who were taking her backed out
and she was left all alone on a mountain top. She is here with us
now too.
Below Nabacha checks out the new
cage and platform, she approves. She has never had a high place to
go to before. Her former owner had 16 x16 foot cages and all ground
level, now she has 24 x 64 foot to run and play, with a high
platform to watch the world around her. Below Nabacha see's a new
toy, but Princess thinks different, she's here to tease not play.
