Phoebe
crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 2010, May you finally find happiness
and be at peace. RIP Phoebe
After much thought
we arranged to have Phoebe sent to another facility in hopes that
the change might mellow her. We were needing to rehome a few of
the cats since we no longer received any donations and it was
getting harder and harder to feed so many with little income.
Phoebe was one of the ones chosen to be moved. But after a short
time there she developed an intestinal block and even though all
efforts to save her where made, she did not make it out of her
surgery.
Phoebe
arrived in April 2002-

Sadly after being for 7 years Phoebe has still not
adjusted well to the change in her life. She had to leave the home
she knew for 5 years and be placed in a new home. Not only did she
lose her home but she lost her friends, 4 domestic that shared her
life.Phoebe is one of those that do not adjust well to change.
Her owner could not keep her any longer,
a job relocation caused Phoebe to lose her secure home and
everything she new.
We Have moved Phoebe in with Rufus & Biggie, to
give her companions to share her life with. Phoebe does not understand what has happened to her,
and she is still upset about the changes in her life. It is truly
sad when these things happen, the animals don't understand why
things have changed, some adjust in time, others may never
adjust.
Since Phoebe
has moved in with the boys it still seems she refuses to be happy no
matter what you do for her. Below Phoebe gives her opinion of living
with two men. Phoebe has refused to associate with either Rufus or
Biggie so we are now going to have to take on the task of building
another small cage to move her off by herself, where she can see the
others but not have to deal with them. After 4 years she still will
not relax and be happy, she will soon occupy a cage and have it all
to herself, where she will be able to watch others but know they can
not get near her.

Phoebe spent her first
winter ever in the snow after she arrived here. She had been raised
and kept indoors all her life, so the outdoors was a whole new
experience for her. Her first experience with snow was something she
was not to sure of, but when she finally gave in, she enjoyed the
snow and playing in it. On the right was Phoebes favorite corner to
spend a hot afternoon in the shade of the vines. Now she spends
most of her time on the corner platform in the cage with Rufus &
Biggie, going from one side of the cage to the other platform on the
opposite side of the cage.
Phoebe is a
very stubborn girl, she refuses to let you think she is happy. But
when she thinks you are not around, you could catch her playing with
the toys in her cage. I tried to entice her with a peacock feather
one day, I had it right in her face and she just sat there as
stubborn as can be, refusing to play. We hoped moving her in with
others, would make a big difference in her attitude. But being the
stubborn girl she is she still refuses to relax and be around the
others. She prefers to keep herself in exile rather than give in.
Below she spends her time away from the others. On the right Phoebe
gave in to being petted.
Her owner
has been here to visit her and has gone into the cage and picked her
right up and held her, this just proves they do remember.
She is far from mean, she is just lost
and alone right now, her life has changed and it will never be the
same for her. When this happens it is very sad, because the
animals do not know or understand why their life has changed so
much. Some adjust in time others like Phoebe may never adjust. Soon
Phoebe will have her own private home, where she can watch the
others but Rufus won't be able to bother her anymore. Hopefully this
will be the last time she will be moved.
She will have a
private cage all to herself, since it seems she is happier alone.
Her new cage is almost 400 square foot all just for her. I felt bad
about the size of the cage until I read an article where a new cage
was put up for a tiger and has 2 sides one side is only 320 sq foot
the other cage is 20 x 50 approx. 1000 square foot. I guess I should
feel good about the size of the enclosure here for the cats since
the cage she is leaving is about 776 sq. foot, and these are
cages for 1 Lynx and 1 bobcat, who are much smaller than a
tiger.
Once
the new cage is done we will add more photos of Phoebe in her new
home.
Phoebe will have a 16 x
24 all to herself with an angle room over half and an upper platform
under the roof. The side & front will be open 2x4 wire so
she can sit up there under the roof and watch all around her and
feel secure.
